The Pharmacy First Service provides easy access to prompt advice and treatment including prescription medicines, where appropriate, for seven common conditions. Here is the list of common conditions covered alongside the age criteria:
Earache (Acute otitis media)
1–17 years
Sudden and severe earache often accompanied by fever. In-person consultation only.
Impetigo
1 year and over
Contagious skin infection with red, crusty sores, usually around the mouth or nose.
Infected insect bites and stings
1 year and over
Red, swollen, painful or hot bites and stings from insects such as mosquitoes, bees or spiders. Excludes bites or stings that occurred whilst travelling outside of the UK.
Shingles
18 years and over
Painful rash with blisters caused by the varicella-zoster virus, usually on one side of the body.
Sinusitis
12 years and over
Head congestion, facial pain, pressure, and runny nose for over 10 days.
Sore throat
5 years and over
Pain or scratching sensation in the throat, difficulty swallowing, and swollen glands with a fever.
Urinary Infections
16-64 years
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women: Burning pain during urination, frequent urination, and urgency to urinate.
